Tom Atkins had the wonderful privilege of being part of an evangelical United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA, during his early years. The minister was Dr. Charles Cochran who believed in Wesleyan Holiness. When Tom was serving as Youth Choir President, God called him into ministry.
After attending Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary, Tom served as a local church pastor in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church for 23 years. As he received numerous invitations to preach across the nation, Tom sensed God calling him from the pastoral ministry into full time evangelism. After years of struggling with God’s call to become a full-time evangelist, Tom stepped out in faith. In 1994, he was appointed as a General Evangelist with the United Methodist Church.
Since then he has preached revivals, camp meetings, and retreats in 27 annual conferences across the United States. He is a past president of the Asbury College Alumni Board. He presently serves as the president of the National Association of United Methodist Evangelists and as Vice President of the East-West Christian Report. He is the founding evangelist for the Tom Atkins Evangelistic Association.
Tom and his wife, Susan, have two grown sons and four grandchildren. When Tom is not preaching, he is fishing. His passion for this sport has qualified Tom to be a Professional Fly Fishing Guide. This expertise has taken him all over the US including Alaska.
Recently, Tom and Susan have opened a new ministry at Indian Springs by purchasing one of the oldest houses (1896) on the camp grounds. This house has eight bedrooms which are open to ministers and/or seminary students to come to camp meeting and grow in holiness. This one-on-one ministry has led Tom to reserve the time during Indian Springs so he can be here with these ministers. To reserve one of these bedrooms, one only needs to contact Tom and Susan.
Tom's ministry continues to grow whether it is from a podium or a porch.
